Dr. Deanese Jameson
I am originally from Southern California; I went to twelve high schools due to moving around so much when I was a kid. I dropped out of high school and worked multiple low paying jobs before I realized that dropping out was the biggest mistake I had ever made. I took the GED and later swore I would put myself through college and make something of myself not for the prestige or money but instead for myself and my family. Later after I became a widow with two little boys, I put my dream of going to Law school on hold so I could raise my boys. I started teaching and for the longest time it fulfilled my need to help others. However, now that my youngest son is grown, I have decided it is time to follow my heart and become the lawyer I always wanted to be since I was fourteen years old.
My winning this scholarship is something I never imagined could happen to a high school dropout like me. I have in the past been told that my dreams were unrealistic but with this scholarship I am one step closer to making my dream come true. I have always loved learning and felt the need to help others. My passion for education has helped me succeed and given me a sense of purpose. I became a teacher because it allowed me to combine my love for children with my love of the law and I enjoy teaching students about their civic responsibility. However, now I want to do more to help others and advocate for those who have lost a loved one due to the negligence of another, I want to finish my legal education. I lost my son because of the actions of another, and it has taken me a long time to figure out how to live a life of joy and meaning. I now realize that the accurate measure of success is the intangible legacy you leave behind through spreading love toward others, extending friendship to those who are different, demonstrating compassion towards others, and showing true integrity.
