The accident resulted in Chavis sustaining life threatening injuries, and he was quickly taken to Morristown Medical Center. The truck driver, a local man from Passaic County, was not seriously injured by the impact.

Three westbound lanes were closed along I-80 from approximately 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. Monday morning as police conducted their investigation and clean-up operation. Chavis has since been reported to be in stable condition. As of the writing of this page, the police investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
