New Jersey Teenager Suffers Severe Injuries In Hit-And-Run
A recent Sunday evening turned into a nightmare for a 17-year-old teenager and his family. While riding on his skateboard, the New Jersey teenager was hit by a car as he was returning home after seeing his girlfriend. The young man suffered severe injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of an area hospital.
A witness to the accident reported that after hitting the teenager, the driver of the car immediately accelerated and left the scene. According to the witness, the area in which the accident happened is well lit and the driver must have known he hit a person. Fortunately, police officers have indicated that they have possibly found the car involved.
The teenager was treated in the ICU for serious head injuries and underwent surgery on the following Monday morning to relieve the swelling in his brain. He also suffered injuries to his leg, and some of the vertebrae in his neck are broken. His condition is considered critical, but friends and family believe he will recover.
Recovering from such severe injuries can take a long time and lead to high medical bills. New Jersey civil law allows for victims and their families seriously injured in accidents caused by another person’s negligence to file a personal injury claim should they wish to do so. A successful personal injury claim may lead to financial damages being awarded, which can help the victim and his family cope with the unexpected expenses for which they are now responsible. Should the teenager pass away due to the severity of his injuries, his family may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the hit-and-run driver.
