Bus And Car Crash — 2 Critically Injured In Newark
The driver of a car that crashed into a New Jersey Transit bus may be facing more than DUI charges. It appears as if the driver of the car ignored a red light at an intersection during the early hours of May 1. The bus was en route to Bloomfield from Newark when the car crash happened.
According to traffic authorities, the car was traveling very fast when it skipped the red light and crashed into the bus. Eight people were injured, including the car driver and his passenger, both of whom appear to have been critically hurt. Fortunately, none of the injured passengers on the bus, said to be about 6 people, suffered serious injuries.
After his vehicle crashed into the bus, the driver apparently attempted to flee the accident scene on foot but was apprehended. It is suspected that he was driving while under the influence of alcohol, and he was taken into custody. This man is not only facing possible criminal charges but also the possibility of civil claims. Regardless of whether criminal charges are filed, the injured victims and/or their families may choose to institute civil claims against the apparent negligent driver.
The passenger seriously injured in the car crash may pursue a personal injury claim. While the bus occupants who were hurt apparently suffered non life-threatening injuries, they may also elect to pursue a personal injury claim against the driver and/or owner of the car. Should the claims be successful, the victims and their families may find that any money awarded by a New Jersey court could provide them with monetary relief as they struggle through an understandably difficult time.
