Pedestrian Accident — 49-Year-Old New Jersey Man Left To Die

New Jersey police are calling for public assistance in a hit-and-run accident which happened on a recent Sunday evening in August. An unidentified vehicle hit a pedestrian, who as a few feet away from the safety of a curb. The 49-year-old victim of the pedestrian accident, recently moved to the Vineland area in New Jersey.

The accident happened at around 8:30 p.m. It is reported that the fatally injured victim was left on the road by the motorist, who apparently fled the accident scene. Police are currently looking at the surveillance tapes of three businesses in the vicinity, hoping to find evidence of the driver’s identity. It has been noted that the motor vehicle involved sustained front end damage. The scene, however, purportedly contained no evidence to help identify the vehicle.

The accident happened in a busy area, and many eyewitnesses have provided information. Unfortunately, the statements of so many people conflict on occasion, making the work of the police more difficult. Police believe that the driver is known to a person or persons in the area. The brother of the victim has called upon the driver to do the right thing and come forward. A reward has been offered.

The family of the deceased New Jersey victim may choose to file a civil wrongful death claim against the driver, once he or she is identified and located. Damages awarded in a successful civil claim arising from a pedestrian accident may assist the family in coping with the unexpected financial expenses, such as funeral and burial costs and loss of income. An award of monetary damages cannot change what happened, but it can bring relief to a family during an understandably difficult time.
