Impact Of Truck Accidents On Highways Felt Once Again

Truck accidents on New Jersey highways are not uncommon. Many of these truck accidents lead to serious injuries and fatalities, and, in some cases, they may be due to the negligence of truck drivers and owners. On a recent Monday in June, one more fatality resulted from a truck accident.

New Jersey authorities are investigating in hopes of finding the reason behind this fatal truck accident. A 39-year-old driver was killed when a shipping container being hauled on a flatbed fell off and landed on his car. Once again the impact of truck accidents on highways was felt by motorists, as people traveling west on the highway were rerouted for hours after the accident.

According to authorities the shipping container hit an overpass as the truck passed under it. This dislodged the container, which then landed on the man’s motor vehicle. It is not yet clear why the container hit the overpass, but police are expecting that citations will be issued after the investigation has been completed.

Truck accidents, such as this one, should not happen on New Jersey roads. As there are both tie-down guidelines and height restrictions for tractor-trailer loads, negligence is a possibility. The family of the deceased may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver and owner of the truck. A successfully litigated claim may lead to financial damages being awarded for loss of income, funeral expenses, and pain and suffering. This cannot change what happened, but it may help the family through an understandably difficult time.
